With a bachelor of commerce specializing in hotel and food management, Mike began his career managing luxury first-class hotels. Over the next 20 years, he built on that experience, extending his expertise to include managing a range of retirement residences, as well as a variety of other innovative properties. Mike has garnered a solid reputation as a respected and ethical operator, earning top ratings from the Ontario Retirement Communities Association.

Now, as Vice-President of Riverstone Retirement Communities, Mike is excited about the opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives and offer the same quality of care that his own grandmother once enjoyed. He’s proud to be managing a company that aims to be at the forefront of retirement living in the Ottawa area. It began with Oakpark, then expanded to Bridlewood Trails, Maplewood, Carlingwood and Stirling Park. But it won’t stop there; drawings and plans for future developments are on the horizon. Riverstone, like Mike, is just getting started.

Mike Brown

General Manager

Mike joined the Riverstone team in March 2019 bringing with him, over 30 years of experience in the retirement industry to his position as General Manager of Oakpark.
Over his career in the retirement industry, Mike has held positions as General Manager, Regional Manager and as Director of Operations for a variety of companies. In addition, he served as the Regional President of the Ontario Retirement Communities Association for several terms and has volunteered, as a Board member, with a number of not for profit organizations.

Mike is excited to assume the role of General Manager at Oakpark, Riverstone’s first retirement community. He joins a strong team who provide unparalleled care and service to the many residents that call Oakpark their home.

David O’Neill is a Carleton University graduate with a BA in Political Science and History. In 2009 David decided to continue his education at Algonquin College in the Recreation and Leisure program, graduating with honours. David started working in the retirement industry in 2011 and has experience in both Long Term Care and Retirement Communities. David initially got his start in activities but found his true passion in Marketing. As a Marketer David finds fulfillment through helping seniors find a safe, happy, and positive environment to spend their retirement years.

At Oakpark David is proud to be part of an experienced Management Team that shares his values and dedication to improving the lives of seniors.

Cheryl Gothard RN

Cheryl Gothard is a Registered Nurse with more than 38 years of broad nursing experience behind her. She joined the Riverstone Team in 2012 and assumed the position of Director of Care in February 2013. She has extensive experience in community nursing, geriatric and psychiatric care and her compassionate approach to her position is second to none.

Dignity, respect and maintaining the highest level of independence possible are some of the core values that she believes in. Cheryl is hono ured, along with her warm and friendly staff to be trusted with ensuring your loved ones receive holistic nursing care in a respectful, warm ,and knowledgeable manner.

Brittani Fawcett

Activity Director

Brittani Fawcett began her career in recreation in September of 2009, when she joined the City of Ottawa Recreation and Leisure Department. She worked in a variety of roles at multiple community centers and Recreation Complexes. She knew her passion was caring for people, so she decided to attend St. Lawrence College’s Practical Nursing program. She graduated with Honours, and she enjoyed working in the health care environment. Brittani has always been a strong believer in holistic health care and life long learning, so she decided to further her education.

While working on her BA at Carleton University, she took a specialized course on Dementia. She was amazed by all the research that had been done to enhance the lives of individuals living with dementia, and she was eager to put her knowledge into practice. She has been enhancing the lives of seniors in her role as activity aide/ Coordinator in the retirement sector. She is also an accomplished singer and dancer and was teaching dance by the age of sixteen and enjoys putting movement and music together.

Brittani is elated to have joined the team at Oakpark Retirement Community due to its glowing reputation within the Ottawa community, and looks forward to making a difference day-to-day in the lives of our residents.

Samira Nesrallah

Food Services Manager

Samira Nesrallah began her career with Oakpark Retirement Community in August 2008 as the Dining Room Manager and was promoted to Food Services Manager in 2010. She brings a personal background in restaurant and food management and is committed to ensuring that all food production, menu planning, presentation and management of the kitchen and dining rooms remain to high standards.

Samira enjoys interacting with the residents and strives to ensure that the dining experience is positive. She accepts and welcomes feed back from the residents on a regular basis and facilitates a Food Committee Meeting monthly.

Antonieta Manuel

Office Manager

Antonieta Manuel joined Oakpark in 2016 as a Receptionist and was promoted to Office Manager in 2018. She is responsible for our daily office operations, supporting the General Manager as needed and is a vital member of the Management team. Along with her day to day duties she also oversees our team of friendly Receptionists.

Antonieta graduated from Algonquin College, completing a three year Business Administration Diploma with a major in Marketing. Having lived in Moscow, Russia for many years, Antonieta is fluent in Russian along with Portuguese and English and enjoys traveling, music and reading. She values her faith, family and friends and enjoys assisting our Oakpark residents!

Giovanni Para

Environmental Service Manager

As Environmental Services Manager at Oakpark, Giovanni Para is responsible for managing and supervising the laundry, housekeeping, and maintenance services. Giovanni is a graduate of the Building Environmental Systems Operator program at Algonquin College and has extensive experience in hospitality and maintenance. In addition to his experience as a housekeeper, Giovanni has worked as a Building Superintendent with two different property management companies in Ottawa.

Giovanni is a hard worker and a dedicated family man. In Giovanni’s own words, “I am tenaciously optimistic! I tend to ‘stay on track’ and I don’t give up until the goal is met and the task is done!”
